McCombs Supply Honors Grandparents On Their Day
Sunday, Sept. 10 is National Grandparents Day.
The day that honors grandparents, who spoil children and then give them back to their parents, is always the Sunday after Labor Day. It's been this way in since 1978 in America and the United Kingdom.
Much to my surprise, Grandparents Day is not a holiday invented to sell cards or flowers. Rather, there was some serious thought put into recognizing family.
The day was initiated at the grassroots level by Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade, a housewife from West Virginia.
Married to her husband, Joseph, for 60 years, they had 15 children, 43 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Mrs.McQuade wanted Grandparents Day to be a family day. She envisioned families enjoying gatherings, maybe even family reunions.
In 1979 President Jimmy Carter proclaimed the first Sunday after Labor Day each year as National Grandparents Day (September was chosen to signify the "autumn" years of life).
There is even a National Grandparents Day Song. Don't believe me?
Here it is
So in recognizing grandparents, McCombs Supply Co., Inc. has some gift ideas that let them know you care. We have meters for checking charges and flashlights and lights stick on the wall lighting up dark areas with no electrical outlets.
The MA-DMT3 multi-meter can even test your oven temperature. It does temperatures up to 2,998 degrees Fahrenheit. It is back lit to see at night.
The digital multi-meter test instrument checks AC/DC voltage, DC current, resistance and continuity low temperature. MA-DMT3 has a price tag of $25.16.
It's features include
Temperature -58 F - 2498 F
DC/AC Voltage
DC Current
Resistance
OHM Settings: 200, 200, 20
It does DC/AC voltage. It tests resistance and continuity, which test current from point A to point B. for fuses and breakers.
The MA-DM1 ($14.88) does diode test and can read a resistor (each color on a resistor means something on the control furnace module). The MA-DM1 is a little more "electronic" and more for the advanced electronical person. The MADMT3 is a little more conventional.
Just clamp the digital clamp meter MA-600CFA (cost $38.31) on a wire and it can read temperature, volts, amps, ohms and read data. It can measure temperatures up to 1750 F.
It hooks to one electrical wire. It will test to make sure a motor is running properly, drawing the correct number of amps.
Checking continuity, the MA-600CFA let's you know if it is an open or closed circuit. It sends a signal from one end to another.
If open or a break in the system, the signal will stop there and won't be able to complete the circuit.
Temperature Range: -38F to 1750F (-38C to 950C)
Includes test leads, K-type probe, carrying case and batteries, continuity buzzer, data hold and temperature F/C switchable.
Does this wire have any juice? Need to check voltage in a hurry? The MA-EM3213A is great for checking voltage. The Pen Probe Style Autorange Digital Multimeter MA-EM3213A sells for $39.75.
It has a small flashlight that helps with you see in dark spaces. To use, just touch the meter to a cord. It will let you know if the wire is live.
It also has an infrared thermometer. Point the EM3213A at an object and it will tell you the temperature. Note: You must be close (about 10 feet) and have the beams directly on the object.
It includes digital LCD display with max. reading 1999, overload protection, data-hold function, auto power off, penlight
and auto ranging.
With a little more range and a little quick with the results, try the MA-16C81.
The infrared thermometer with temperature difference Indicator 8:1 -36 to 968F, MA-16C81 cost $50.85.
The MA-16C81 is more of a solid beam laser pointer. It is very quick with its reading.
It's features include F/C selectable, beep alarm, three backlight colors, auto power off and carrying pouch.
Specifications:
Measurement Range: -36F to 968F (-38C to 520C)
Spectral Response: 7.5 to 13.5
Resolution: 0.1C/0.1F
Response Time (95%): 1s
Distance: Spot 8:1
Shinning The Light
Every senior citizen should have a flashlight in each room of their home. Here are two we recommend.
The Dwl-1 flashlight is sturdy and very bright.
The COB LED extendable flashlight sells for $22.95. Seems a bit pricey? But this light has many appealing features.
Dual Flashlight has two lights in one. Powerful illumination with 250 lumen LED flashlight. Has extendable body and powerful magnetic base.
LED flashlight outputs 250 lumens of intense white light. COB worklight outputs 190 lumens.
Extends body to access COB (chips on board) worklight.
Has viewing distance of more than 190 feet with 200 lumen setting.
Has convenient "No-Roll" design. Anodized aircraft-grade aluminum; water and impact resistant. Includes a sturdy belt holder and 4 AAA batteries included.
Expandable Flashlight
We all drop things into tight, dark places. Having a reliable flashlight that expands into the hard to reach area is essential. For the difficult to reach place, the EMF1 extendable magnetic flashlight is ideal.
It has a flexible shaft for hard to reach places. It also includes a mirror.
Cost: $19.50.
The EMF-1 is magnetic at the light for powerful retrieval and magnetic on grip that acts as a third hand. It telescopes from 6.5 inches to 21 inches.
It has three super bright LEDs. Four 44L 1.5 volt batteries included.
Let There Be Light
Do you have a closet in your house that does not have a light switch? How about a shed, attic or garage with no electricity?
The NEBO Flipit ( part number 6523) is perfect for providing light. It works well in cabinets.
Flipit is a 215 lumen COB LED light that operates like a standard household light switch.
Flipit includes hook and loop double-sided tap and two magnets for two easy mounting options, as well as two drywall screw holes for permanent mounting.
Three AAA batteries included.
It sells for the reasonable price of $10.50.
There are no wires or no tools necessary. Just stick it and flip it on like a light switch.
