What Problem does the Basket Bushing solve? The infamous off balance tub wobble can happen in many models of Whirlpool, Amana, Admiral, Maytag and Kenmore Impeller style washing machine baskets. If you are experiencing a frequently off balance washing machine and your model is on our compatible model list below you may need this part.
Fixes “Wallowed out” or “Bored” out Washing Machine Baskets.
What causes the Tub to wobble? The basket hole or gear case hole on the Washing Machine’s basket wears down from friction over time. This friction is caused in many ways including off balance loading, overloading the washing machine or if the washer is run frequently after the hub wears out.
How do I know if I need to replace/upgrade my basket’s bushing? If there is any play between the inner basket and the outer tub then you may have a bored out basket hole and need this part.
You can check your washer’s basket by following these steps: 1. Verify your model is compatible with our upgraded part 2. Remove your washing machine’s tub Cover 2. Remove the wash plate / impeller from your washing machine 3. Remove the hub from the basket 4. Hold the outer tub (plastic exterior tub of your washer) and the inner basket. If you can move the inner basket while holding the outer tub, you may have a wallowed out / bored out basket
The basket should have a tight fit to the gear case shaft with little to no play.
It is recommended to replace the Basket Bushing any time your hub wears out.
Does this part ALWAYS fix off balance issues? Outside of properly loading your washing machine there are many parts responsible for keeping your washing machine balanced and spinning smoothly. 1. Suspension Rods Suspension rods on these model washing machines are made to “Dampen” the vibrations in your washing machine. 2. Hub The hub forms the connection between your basket and the gear case. When the hub wears out the inner basket becomes loose and off balance 3. Wash Ring - Basket The top plastic liner to your washing machine typically has water inside of it which helps steady the tub as it reaches a high spin speed. 4. Gear Case Hole / Basket Bushing - Basket The basket is made to fit snug to the gear case. When one or more of the other parts wears down or fails, the basket hole where the gear case fits may become “Wallowed out” or “Bored” out causing the basket to pin loosely on the gear case shaft.
Any of these parts could be causing an off balance Washing Machine.
What if my gear case’s shaft is worn down or has a buildup of corrosion? In some cases your gear case shaft may be worn down or if rust or corrosion is present it may actually be thicker in some places. You may need to use a wire wheel to clean the corrosion off or other tactics to ensure a tight fit between the Basket bushing and the gear case shaft
