President's Day has become a big deal in Pennsylvania, were schools have off both Friday and Monday for a holiday weekend. There are holiday sales - stores need any excuse to have a sale- and their is no mail. Some banks are closed as well. 

The holiday is observed in Pennsylvania on the third Monday in February, which this year is Feb. 19. But not all states celebrate or recognize the day on the same date.

According to Officeholidays.com New Mexico, for example, observes President's Day on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Georgia observest it on Dec. 24. 

Did you know that though President's Day is one of the 10 US legal federal holidays, it is not a public holiday in all states? Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Rhodes North Carolina and Wisconsin, for example, do not recognize President's Day as a holiday. 

There are 38 states and the District of Columbia that recognize a state on President's Day, states Officeholiday.com.  

Many states also have a different official name for the holiday. There are 14 different variations of the name of the holiday. For example, Arkanasa calls it Washington's Birthday or Daisey Gatson Bates Day. Alabama refers to it as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson's birthday.  Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi and New York, for example, call the day Washington's Birthday.
