I replaced the original 10 year old belt on my washer with a non-OEM belt about two months ago, which has failed since. These belts have aren't simple rubber belts, they are coated with fabric that allows for controlled slip between the motor and agitator/drum. The non-OEM belt had a poor quality fabric coating that delaminated quickly, causing the belt to heat and crack. Additionally, sizing tolerance of the non-OEM belt was off, necessitating tightening of the idler pulley which caused increased noise during use. Since the OEM belt was installed, I've used the washer twice and so far everything seems to be working as well as it had originally.
