Honoring Our Veterans

Saturday, Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, a time to honor people who served in the United States Armed Forces.

Did you know the United States Congress adopted a resolution June 4, 1926 requesting that President Calvin Coolidge issue annual proclamations calls for the observance of Nov. 11 with appropriate ceremonies?

McCombs Supply honored five veterans working for the Lancaster, Pa., appliance parts business. The five went to breakfast with Ken McCombs, vice president at McCombs, at Bridgeport Restaurant.

Sitting at the table in the photo above, from left to right are Mike Reheard, who was in the Army infantry in Germany;

Carlton Gatlin, who served in the Army from 1966-69, stationed in Vietnam during the  Vietnam War and Fort Bragg (he was a field operator);

Charles McDowell, who served in the Army from 1978-84, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany (he operated a boat building bridges in water);

Billy Bennett, who served in the Army from 1964-66, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany (he was a crypto teletype operator);

Carl McNeil, who served in the Army from 1976-79, stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana (he was a radio operator).
