Garbage Disposal Installation Tips:

1. Always double check that the power to the kitchen/work area is turned off.

2. When removing old garbage disposal and sink flange assembly, take note of the arrangement.

3. Inspect the sink and dishwasher drain lines for excessive coating or blockage, such as hardened grease. Remove with buildups with a plumber’s snake.

4. Be sure to remove old sealing materials entirely from the sink surfaces, top and bottom, in order to prevent future leaks around the replacement disposal.

Garbage Disposal Use Tips:

If not operated or maintained properly, a garbage disposal can easily break down, block and clog the drains and cause a long list of expensive plumbing and drain nightmares.

Keep your garbage disposal clean. Occasionally run with cold water and a little dish soap.

Use garbage disposal regularly. Infrequent use can lead to corrosion.

Only run the disposal under a solid flow of cold water.

Don’t place excess food waste into the disposal. Large pieces, bones, or fibrous or starchy materials, such as corn husks and potato skins can jam the disposal and clog drain pipes.

Never pour grease or oil down the drain and through your garbage disposal. These fats will solidify, causing buildups and clogs.

Harsh cleaning chemicals, like bleach or drain cleaner, may damage the disposal’s blades and drain pipe. Don’t use them.
